Narbrough Res 1 Gressenhall Res 2
05/09/2010
Gressenhall reveres travelled to Narbrough for the 2nd round of the Ben Smith Memorial Cup.

It turned out to be a tough game and not for the faint hearted as Gressenhall started brightly playing some neat tidy football at times. Gressenhall for all their endeavour, could not get hold of the game and Narborough had took the lead from some nice counter attacking football.

Despite some near misses by Wales and Hood, Gressenhall could not level up before the break. In the second half the game was evenly poised again and both teams had chances and the tackles were getting hard. But finally Gressenhall made a break through when Wales placed a low cross in to the box and found Hobbs finished neatly into the back of the net before both teams battled it out to the final whistle. So extra time had to be played and the game carried on much the same as the previous 90 minutes. Both teams giving it there all but only drawing blanks and the  idea of penalties was becoming a more real one. Gressenhall upped their game though and won a corner. Beales supplied the cross which was cleared only, but only to Ray Beales who knocked the ball back in for Hobbs who headed the ball sweetly in to the old onion bag. Gressenhall held on until the finish of the game and the next round awaits.  A good solid performance for the first game of the session.

Cockers 2 Gressenhall 6
28/08/2010
New Gressenhall manager Pete Cornwell must have looked at this away fixture against Cockers and thought it will be a difficult start to the campaign. On the same pitch last season, Cockers beat Gressenhall 2-0 which effectively dropped Gressenhall out of the title race. But to everyones surprise, Cockers turned up with only 10 players and Gressenhall looked to take advantage of their extra man. The game started with away team looking to create the early break through, but after a defensive mix up, a Cockers player scored an unchallenged header at the back post. Gressenhall were quickly back in the game though as Barry Caine equalized from a smartly taken free-kick after the Cockers goalkeeper had handled outside the box. New signing Jake Watson then put Gressenhall infront from a Jamie Escritt long throw. Gressenhall looked to increase their lead and did so when Mike Lyons sent Barry Caine clear to tuck away his second of the match. By half time it was 4-1 as Mike Lyons rounded the keeper after Jamie Escritt had picked him with a neat through ball.

The second half continued as before and Mike Lyons scored to make it 5-1 from a Stuart Totterdale cross. The home side did pull one back due to a defensive mix up as Gressenhall failed to clear at the back and the Cockers player rounded the keeper to slot away. There was still time though for Barry Caine to complete his deserved hat-trick as Jamie Escritts back heal enabled Caine to score. Cockers did show some life at times, but they were up against it the whole game and it was made even more difficult when they went down to 9 because of an injury. Gressenhall will have enjoyed the start of the season, but must be aware of tougher tests yet to come.

New Season Begins!
27/08/2010
Gressenhall 1st team start their season with an away trip to Cockers tomorrow. Gressenhall finished in a good position in the league last season and are hoping to build on the success under new manager Pete Cornwell. It will be another hard season, but with hard work and plenty of commitment from all the players there is no reason why Gressenhall can’t challenge for honours in both the league and cup competitions. The reserves don’t kick off until next month, but there is expectation from the management that they can build on last season’s results and bring through the new young players into the first team.
Good luck to everyone involved.

Feltwell Utd 1 Gressenhall 1
22/08/2010
Another pre-season run out in sizzling hot conditions ended in a 1-1 draw. Feltwell played well and it was a good run out for all involved. With the season starting in a few weeks, the team now needs to be push on and group together if they want to challenge for honours this season.
